NGC graded MS 64 BN, CAC approved, EAC MS60
Variety: N-11, EDS
This coin is generally well struck, but some of the highest points are flat. Most of the stars are fully defined. The cartwheel luster is very nice on both sides, especially the reverse. There are no contact marks to speak of. Some darker obverse toning is a little distracting, but the coin is still pretty nice overall - good enough for the CAC sticker.
I have no story for this coin. I won it at auction in April 2006 when I was well along in assembling the middle date set and needed an affordable 1827.
The Heritage catalog description says:
1827 1C MS64 Brown NGC. N-11, Early Die State, R.1.
A glossy chocolate-brown example with smooth fields and boldly executed design elements. Blushes of pale violet patina add to the coin's considerable eye appeal. While a common die pairing and by far the likeliest candidate to locate in Mint State, its importance as a high grade representative of this earlier Coronet issue is paramount.
Census: 8 in 64, 5 finer (3/06). EAC 60.
