1921 Missouri. 2*4. MS-66 (PCGS). ANR Baltimore Mar/06A well struck, brilliant and lustrous example of the Missouri half dollar, this piece is one of the finest seen. Indeed, PCGS has assigned only 12 other examples this grade, and none higher. Among commemorative half dollars the Missouri is often seen with extensive bagmarks, or light striking at the centers, or both. The present piece must have been selected carefully and preserved well since then, for it is exceptional in its quality. Both obverse and reverse have delicate golden toning.PCGS Population: 13; none finer. This coin observes the 100th anniversary of the statehood of Missouri, an event celebrated in Sedalia in August 1921. The inscription SEDALIA appears in incuse letters on the reverse. Today, those who love Ragtime music recognize Sedalia as a special place, where Scott Joplin played the piano at the Maple Leaf Club, giving rise to his wildly popular Maple Leaf Rag, not the first Ragtime tune, but probably the one that caused the greatest interest when it was published in the late 1890s. Both obverse and reverse depict Daniel Boone, a portrait on the obverse and a standing figure on the reverse. There are a number of instances in American coinage in which the same person is shown on both sides of a coin—but it takes some looking to find them. One is the Lincoln cent with the Memorial reverse minted since 1959, and another is the 1900 Lafayette silver dollar.From the Richard Jewell Collection.
