TOP POP! CLOSE TO PERFECT

Even though the U.S. Mint updated their packaging in 1955 — transitioning from box-sets to flat-packs — out of the 378,200 Proof Franklins that were minted that year, only 89 of them have been graded Proof 69* by NGC. Most of the half dollars that were produced in the early years of the Post-War Proof series have been damaged in some way. Over 99% of the Franklins that were minted in 1955 didn't survive in Proof 69 condition. Talk about condition rarity!

NGC reserves the 'Star' designation for coins with superior eye appeal for their grade. PCGS does not use a * designation in their grading.
