NGC type 9 holder.
FS-023.
The "Straight Steps" variety, the fields on this piece are deeply mirrored and the surfaces are brilliant overall.
Only a small percentage of the proof Nickels from 1939 exhibit the sharp steps of 1940, a hub design change that wasn't fully implemented until 1941.
A few carbon specks on obverse & reverse.
(Was previously sold at auction for $345 on 7/26/02.)
