The Philadelphia Mint produced 340,330 half eagles in 1844, yet the issue is scarce across all grade levels and becomes rare in MS63. Only four coins are graded higher, all 63+. Additionally, the issue is significantly more challenging than 1843- and 1847-dated coins.
Mint State 1844 half eagles are seldom seen at auction, happy to find this one at Great Collections.
