Owner Comments:

This issue is interesting in that the "S" mintmark is punched inside of the wreath instead of below it, unlike other "legend obverse" Seated half dimes other than the unique 1870-S (authenticated by having been struck from the same reverse die as all 1871-S) and some 1872-S. I purchased this decent coin from the Goldbergs' sale of the Benson Collection in February 2002. The Benson provenance is indicated on the PCGS label, though not on PCGS certificate verification.
