Owner Comments:

I purchased this coin at auction in March 2020, unavoidably sight unseen due to the cancellation of lot viewing at the original auction venue due to the coronavirus outbreak. It was one of the few lots that sold for well under retail list, possibly due to the heavy toning and old scratches that attest to its age and originality. It is a well detailed specimen of a somewhat better date (1798 large 8) of this scarce type, of which the 1805 4 berries and 1807 are the most frequently seen issues. This coin is provenanced to the pseudonymous "E. Horatio Morgan" collection. Photos courtesy of Stacks Bowers Galleries.
