Only a single commemorative coin was issued for 1990, representing a lull in the multiple coins seen for past and future years. Released on January 16, 1990, the 1990 Eisenhower Silver Dollar was issued to mark the centennial of the birth of Dwight D. Eisenhower on October 14, 1890. He is honored as both a five-star General and the 34th President of the United States. This is the only U.S. coin to feature two portraits of the same person on the same side of one coin.
