One Hundredth Anniversary of the Buffalo coin.

James Earle Fraser was an American sculptor during the first half of the 20th century. He was an important member of the Commission of Fine Arts; the organization that selects the winning design from all submissions for all new coins to be minted. The American Buffalo is a 24-karat gold coin featuring James Fraser's designs based on the original 1913 Type I Buffalo nickel.

The US Mint released the 2013 Reverse Proof Buffalo on August 8, 2013. The release day price was $1,640.00; the price of gold was $1,312.93. A lower first day price than the 2013 Proof Ultra Cameo, $150.00 lower, and the excitement of a new version of the one hundred year old design boosted sales to 47,836 coins sold.
