Second year of issue.
James Earle Fraser was an American sculptor during the first half of the 20th century. He was an important member of the Commission of Fine Arts; the organization that selects the winning design from all submissions for all new coins to be minted. The American Buffalo is a 24-karat gold coin featuring James Fraser's designs based on the original 1913 Type I Buffalo nickel.
The US Mint released the 2007 Buffalo Proof on May 23, 2007. The release day price was $825.00; the price of gold was $661.90. Enthusiasm dropped for the 2007 Proof Buffalo as total sales only reached 58,998 coins sold; a decrease of more than 75% in sales.
