Date/mm: 1939(P) Rev of 38 nickels are relatively scarce across all grades, though heavily worn pieces are probably indistinguishable as to their reverse subtype. Examples having any degree of full steps are extremely rare. Since NGC did not distinguish the two reverses for many years, the numbers below are incomplete and may rise as previously certified coins are resubmitted for the complete description.
Coin Description: This untoned beauty has stunning luster and smooth surfaces save for some remnant planchet roughness on the jawline. Only Rob Thomas fans can appreciate the name of this coin, Smooth!
Comments: This coin is one of a handful of HOMEMADE coins in my collection. I purchased the coin raw on eBay on 10/14/2018 for $8.10 and submitted the coin to NGC on 3/27/2019 which would normally cost an additional $20, but since I had just won my second "Best Presented Set Award" for this collection, the grading fee was covered by the $500 award.
