After a couple months of production, the Mint began receiving complaints that the 3 looked too much like an 8, and they modified the punches, changing the Closed 3 to an Open 3. For most denominations, the circulation strike Closed 3 coins are much rarer. This Gem Indian cent exhibits rich reddish-orange luster that is blended with chocolate-brown toning.. CAC and this coin is also now photo sealed.
