Owner Comments:

The only modern commemorative gold coin issued in 2003 was the First Flight $10 Gold Coin. The coin honors the 100th anniversary of the Wright Flyer and the Wright brothers. The obverse of the coin features a portrait of the Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur, facing forward. The reverse features an image of the Wright Flyer in flight, with an eagle soaring above. This was the last $10 gold commemorative to be issued (to date, 2020).

There were only 10,009 uncirculated and 21,676 proof coins produced by the West Point Mint. These coins are fairly easy to find in perfect MS70 condition (about 1,450 graded by NGC in MS70, about three times the amount graded in MS69) and are moderately difficult to find in perfect PF70 condition (about 590 graded in PF70, about 55% as those graded in PF69 condition).

Ebay auction purchase from David Lawrence Rare Coins, 01/01/2017, $645.00

Gold started the year at $342.75/oz. and ended at $417.25/oz. (A jump of almost 21.7%)
