Owner Comments:

The only commemorative $5 gold coin produced in 2002 was the Olympic Salt Lake City $5 Gold Coin, issued with surcharges added to support the U.S. effort at the 2002 Winter Olympics. The obverse of the coin shows a stylized image of a snowflake. The reverse features a geometricized depiction of the Olympic flame/cauldron. I really appreciate the look of this Donna Weaver designed coin. The year 2002 was the last year to date (now = 2020) that an Olympic Coin was produced by the U.S. Mint.

There were only 10,585 uncirculated and 32,877 proof coins produced by the West Point Mint. These coins are fairly difficult to find in perfect MS70 condition (about 650 graded by NGC in MS70) and in perfect PF70 condition (about 615 graded in PF70, about the same as those graded in PF69 condition).

Ebay auction purchase, 03/31/2015, $362.52

Gold started the year at $276.50/oz. and ended at $342.75/oz. (A jump of almost 23.95%)
