Owner Comments:

No commemorative $5 gold coins were released in 1998, and only one was produced in 1999. Because of resistance from coin collectors, Congress has passed a law in 1996 that limited commemorative coin production. The $5 gold coin released in 1999 was in honor of the 200th anniversary of George Washington's death. This is a great looking coin and one of my favorites. The obverse features a right profile of George Washington and the reverse features a perched eagle holding arrows and olive branches.

There were 22,511 uncirculated and 41,693 proof coins minted by the West Point Mint. These coins are moderately difficult to find in perfect MS70 condition (about 845 graded by NGC in MS70) and in perfect PF70 condition (about 865 graded in PF70, or about two-thirds of those graded in PF69 condition).
