Mintage 23,294. This was the final year of relative small mintages for the Quarter Eagle. Gold from the California gold fields in substantial amounts did not start to reach the Philadelphia Mint until the following year. There was more than a 10 fold increase in Quarter Eagle output from the mint in 1850. This is a scarce coin in all grades and a rare coin in mint state condition. The average worker's pay was only 50 cents to one dollar a day. This coin represented up to a weeks pay, hence not many uncirculated examples were saved.
