Owner Comments:
In 1877 the $10 Gold piece represented a large amount of money in terms of buying power. As a result, the demand for this denomination was small and only 17,000 coins were struck at the San Francisco Mint. Few collectors could afford to save such a valuable coin. Only three mint state pieces have been slabbed by NGC, one MS-60 and two MS-61 coins. The finest PCGS slab only grades AU-58. The average grade for this date is only AU-50. Less than 300 coins have been graded by both grading services.
