Owner Comments:
Nice prooflike reflectivity with moderate frosted devices. NGC is showing 13 graded PL'S with only 2 having the mint state status. 1893-P DPL's are super rare, with NGC having only grading one DPL in 18 years and it is in AU55. Population reports with PCGS show 2 PL'S graded, 1 in MS60 and the other in MS62. PCGS'S 1893-P population with DMPL'S is 1 in MS60, 2 in MS61, and 1 in MS62. As you can see, the total population from PCGS and NGC combined together in PL and DMPL, account for a total of only 20 coins as of 7/30/05. This 1893-P is the VAM 3 with the 3 in the date doubled at the top. Closed 3 variety. The original 3 was punched above the new 3 very high with a die chip right between the loops of the 3. All this can be seen with a 10x loop with no problem. Wayne Miller quotes from his book that the 1893-P is excessively rare in fully prooflike condition, much more than previously thought. The rarity in MS60 TO MS63 is a 8 out of 12 on the scale in Waynes "Morgan and Peace dollar text book" Bought from the seller "Great Service" Ebay listing 7/05
