Owner Comments:

The 1936-1937 proof nickels came in two varieties. The 1936 satin proof nickel is my favorite of the Indian Head series. Even though the brilliant version is more rare in 1936, there are more brilliant available dated 1937. The satin proof cent and nickel issues are a one-year variety. In total, about 10,189 proof Buffalo nickels were made from 1936-1937, and only 16,148 were made including the matte proofs from 1913-1916. Compare that to the rarest Kennedy half-dollar, the 1998S matte proof with a mintage of 62 thousand, or the rarest silver eagle, the 1995-W proof at 30 thousand.

This example has great eye appeal with some cameo contrast. NGC has graded about 32 satin and 84 brilliant nickels in PF68, with none reaching PF69 or PF70.
