Owner Comments:

The 1850 Seated dollar had a tiny mintage of only 7,500 pieces. Much of this mintage was purchased by bullion buyers and shipped overseas for melting as soon as the coins entered circulation.

This coin was once part of the Dick Osburn collection. It is the plate coin from the Osburn-Cushing reference book on Seated Dollars. It is variety OC-1, with the base of the "0" in the date widely repunched.
