Owner Comments:

Like the steel cent of 1943, the composition of the Jefferson nickel was changed during World War II to preserve copper. The silver-manganese alloy coins were made easily distinguishable from the normal by giving them a large mintmark over the Jefferson Memorial on the reverse. This is the first time the Philadelphia mint used a mintmark.

This wonderful example has exceptional color and luster. NGC has graded about 60 of this type in MS68 and 30 in MS68★ with none higher.
