Owner Comments:

This coin is a nice AU-50 example of a Seated Liberty Silver Dollar which was produced during the first term of Ulysses S. Grant as President. He became the Commanding General of all Union forces during the American Civil War and accepted the surrender of all Confederate forces by General Robert E. Lee on April 9,1865 at Appomattox Court House in Virginia thus ending the bloodiest War in American History. This coin was struck a short six years after this historical event at Appomattox had occurred and during the time of “reconstruction” which followed the War’s end enabling the Southern States to rebuild and recover from the War’s destruction.
