Circulation strike mintage 5,554,000

In general, I read that striking quality in this year/mintmark varies from very good to quite miserable, so I set out to do some cherrypicking and found this example. The eye appeal of this coin is very attractive in my opinion with a golden overtone on the obverse and reverse. Minuscule areas of wear can be seen on the high points of the design. No detracting marks in major areas of interest can be seen at high (7x) magnification. With its nearly full luster, this coin has the appearance of higher grade.

Numismatic News: On June 15, 1917, Mr Leland Steinman of the San Francisco Mint announced, in a letter to The Numismatist, "Beginning this month the San Francisco Mint has changed the position of the "S" on the half dollar from the obverse to the reverse. Now it appears to the left of the eagle on the reverse and under the cactus branch which the talons of the bird are clutching."
