Owner Comments:

Mintage 226,120
Minted at West Point with "W" mintmark

Although the photos show some white spots on the obverse and reverse as well as red hue on the reverse, those are just photographical and lighting artifacts and not milk spots or toning. The devices and fields are clean and free from hairlines, hits (contact marks), scuff marks and other defects and have a smooth texture, with a sharp strike and original mint luster. As is typical of the Burnished Eagles I've seen, besides the fact that it has a "W" mintmark, the burnished coins lack the deep mirrored fields and cameo appearance of the devices of "unburnished" examples -- instead having a uniform satiny or matte finish. This coin has more of a satiny finish. In hand, typical of a Burnished coin, the surface does not reflect light as well as regular bullion strikes do (but does reflects light better than matte finish).

Numismatic News: The US Mint began selling the 2012-W Burnished American Silver Eagle on August 2, 2012. The issue price was $44.95.
