Owner Comments:

Circulation strike mintage 12,708,000

Despite the relatively high mintage, I had some difficulty finding a coin with good strike and luster as most 1942-S examples vary greatly in sharpness, most being simply "blah". Patience certainly paid off again with this coin, but the die crack described below was the impetus to owning this coin since it was the first die crack I ran across as a novice coin collector. I had to have it.

This Walking Liberty had original mint luster and rather attractive eye appeal.

On the obverse, upon 7x magnification, noticeable patches of hairlines were evident on the surface as well as very small scratches; small scattered superficial contact marks with a few on the upper portion of Miss Liberty's skirt were present. 60% of head and left hand details are present.

On the reverse, an interesting die crack is seen vertically going through the Eagle's breast (I find die cracks fascinating for some reason). The Eagle's breast feathers and left leg feathers are flat.
