Minted at Philadelphia without mintmark
WOW ! Finally a spot-free coin in MS-69 that I was able to "interview" in person (i.e. without the help of a MAC sticker and purchased online). This MS-69 is a virtually flawless example, both on the obverse and reverse, with attractive sharp strike on all the prime focal areas, blast white mint luster, finely textured fields, and fabulous eye appeal. No scuffs or hairlines. However, it does have one minuscule (and non-detracting) contact marks on the obverse fields just to the left of the date, and one very superficial and small contact mark on the reverse just above the Eagle's left wing -- which is probably the reason it did not grade a MS-70.
Numismatic News: The 1995 bullion strike offers a dramatic illustration of the fluidity of certification data and its effect on market price. Whereas at the beginning of the year, only one MS-70 had been graded by PCGS, later in the year, more than 20 additional coins had been graded MS-70. This reality underlines the fact that the population of an MS-70 coin essentially determines its market price, with the 1995 MS-70 bullion strike American Silver Eagle (ASE) valuing at an average of $750, while the 1994 bullion ASE commanding an average of $4500 per coin ! (data collected and published in 2018)
1995 average silver price: $5.19/oz
