Owner Comments:

Mintage 9,001,711
Minted at West Point without mintmark

SUPER SATINY AND SMOOTH TEXTURED!!

The only two very small contact marks appear on the reverse to the right of the arrowhead detail. Otherwise, this coin is a pleasure to look at ! Attractive sharp strike on all the prime focal areas, blast white mint luster, finely textured satiny fields, and fabulous eye appeal. No scuffs, hairlines or other defects aside from those mentioned above.

Numismatic and Headline News: The big news of the year was the tragic September 11 terrorist attacks. Grading services graded and authenticated 279 American Eagles (all MS-69) certified as being found in a vault pulled from the Ground Zero site on that horrendous date.

A small decline in American Silver Eagles were produced from the previous year, but greater than any single year's mintage from the 90's. The Sacagawea dollar, having just debuted in 2000, was rarely seen in pocket change and mainly stored in treasury vaults, unwanted by the public. The US Mint, after several years of increased production, began to cut back and began a round of deep budget cuts and layoffs.

2001 average silver price $4.38/ounce
