Circulation strike mintage 12,118,000
With the end of World War II and the slowing of the United States economy, there was a resultant cut-back of coin production. The 1946-P half dollar had a mintage of less than half that of 1945-P, thus affecting the number preserved by collectors. Nevertheless, this issue is quite plentiful through the grade of MS-66, but the certified population drops off rapidly above that grade.
With very little effort, I was able to find an attractive MS-65 example with brilliant full original mint luster, almost full head details, full skirt lines and 80% or more hand details on the obverse. A few light contact marks are seen in Miss Liberty's central skirt line.
On the reverse, the breast shows sharp detail, and most of the Eagle's left leg feathers are present.
