What else can be said about this perfect MS-70 graded American Silver Eagle with such rich lustrous beauty and superb eye appeal that hasn't already been said about the other MS-70 Eagles in this registry set? With it's very attractive sharp strike, the highest degree of original luster, no hairlines, hits, scuff marks or defects, I cannot find anything negative to say about it (except the price to acquire it).
Numismatic News -- With the initiation of the 50 State Quarters program in 1999, coin collecting saw renewed interest. Each state was allowed to choose its own design and States' design were released at 5 per year in order of admission to the Union (starting with Delaware)
Many of the 1999 American Silver Eagles were prone to spotting. The spots are, in some theories, to be formed as a result of detergents used to wash the planchets. If not fully rinsed away, the detergent is struck into the coin and, while not apparent at first, over time it results in the silver's discoloration into an irregular milky white haze (spots) that cannot be removed. Not every coin is affected, but many produced during the mid to late 90's were.
1999 average silver price : $5.22
