FANTASTIC EYE APPEAL !!! The glimmering satin surface of this 2010 American Silver Eagle is especially attractive. This MS-70 (as examined today, along with the other MS-70 examples in this registry set), has an excellent sharp strike, original mint luster, as well as no spots, hairlines, hits (contact marks), scuff marks or other defects.
Numismatic News: The availability to purchase the 2010 American Silver Eagle was delayed in 2010 (as compared to previous years).
For most of the year the Mint delayed production of collector versions (Proof and Burnished) of the 2010 coins and the hobby community was uncertain whether any would be produced. The Mint again followed a rationing program for the 2010 Eagles (as it had in 2009) due to the ongoing shortage of silver blanks and the Mint's congressional mandated production of bullion-strike coins to satisfy public demand took precedence over the Proof and Burnished versions . For most of the year the Mint delayed production of these collector versions (Proof and Burnished) of the 2010 coins.
Finally, on September 2, the rationing was lifted and Proofs were actually produced in 2010, but the Burnished version was further postponed until 2011.
2010 average silver price: $20.19/ounce
