Item Description: S$1 1996 D OLYMPICS - HIGH JUMP
Full Grade: NGC MS 70
Owner: Tom Carr

Owner Comments:

Six commemorative dollars were released in 1996, and the first four were issued to commemorate the 1996 Olympic Summer Games in Atlanta, Georgia. The third of these Olympic dollars honored the sport of high jumping. The obverse of the coin features an image of a man clearing the bar while executing a jump technique known as the "Fosbury Flop." The reverse features an image of a stylized Olympic torch with the inscription "Atlanta 1996 Centennial Olympic Games."

There was a small production of 15,697 uncirculated coins produced by the Denver Mint, and 124,502 proof coins produced by the Philadelphia Mint. Because of the small mintages, the uncirculated dollars are difficult to find in MS70 condition. The Philadelphia Mint proof dollars are almost impossible to find in perfect PF70 condition. A PF70 graded coin is a key coin in any collection of Modern Commemorative dollars.
