Mintage 30,459,000
Minted at West Point without mintmark
At the risk of being repetitive, this sharply detailed specimen (on the obverse and reverse) has blast white detail on all the prime focal spots. With original mint luster that pops off the coin, it exhibits white halos that refract light as it is rotated and tilted. Spotless, with no hairlines, hits, scuff marks or other defects, it is a spectacular example of an American Silver Eagle in MS-70 condition.
Numismatic News: Similar to 2008, demand for the 2009 American Silver Eagle skyrocketed. The Mint rationed purchase of the coins. Nevertheless, the supply of silver necessary to produce the coins put pressure on the Mint which used all of the silver blanks for production of standard bullion-strike coins and none allocated for proof or Burnished coins. This rationing was lifted in June 2009 after the silver suppliers were able to meet demand, but later in November the Mint had to suspend sales and re-establish the rationing system.
Even with these challenges, the Mint produced a record more than 30 million American Silver Eagles by year's end.
2009 average silver price: $14.66
