Minted at West Point with "W" mintmark
Very attractive strike and smooth creamy texture to the devices and fields, with no hairlines, hits, scuff marks or defects (another "perfect" MS-70 coin).
As is typical of the Burnished Eagles I've seen, besides the fact that it has a "W" mintmark, the burnished coins lack the deep mirrored fields and cameo appearance of the devices of "unburnished" examples -- instead having a uniform satiny or matte finish. This coin has a satiny finish. In hand, typical of a Burnished coin, the surface does not reflect light as well as regular bullion strikes do.
Numismatic News: Production of the 2009 and 2010 Burnished Eagles were cancelled so the Mint could focus all their attention on the production of the bullion strike coins (due to high demand for these regular bullion strike coins)
However, the Mint announced the 2011 Burnished coin's release on September 8 2011 and their sale began on September 15 2011.
