Mintage 533,757
Minted at West Point with "W" mintmark

Very attractive SHARP strike and smooth texture to the devices and fields, with no hairlines, hits, scuff marks or defects. As is typical of the Burnished Eagles I've seen, besides the fact that it has a "W" mintmark, the burnished coins lack the deep mirrored fields and cameo appearance of the devices of "unburnished" examples -- instead having a uniform satiny or matte finish. In hand, typical of a Burnished coin, the surface does not refract light as regular bullion strikes do. Nevertheless, this coin is exquisite and excellent eye appeal ! A pleasure to have in my collection.

Numismatic News: Collector's interest in this third Burnished Eagle was down by approximately 90,000 as compared to 2007. Its price to the public was $25.95.

That being said, however, the 2008-W Silver Eagle was an exciting release for the numismatic world, for it brought with it the first major variety of the Silver Eagle series. This error, which is denoted as 2008 Reverse of 2007, occurred when the reverse design was slightly modified between 2007 and 2008.

The 2008-W Burnished Eagle was also offered in a coin set (along with Satin finish strikes of the year's Sacagawea dollar and four Presidential dollars) for $37.95.
