Mintage 281,310
Minted at West Point with "W" mintmark
When I first saw this enhanced finished coin, all I could manage to say was "WOW!". Perfect not only by technical grading standards, but absolutely stunning by design standards as well, the US Mint did a fantastic job with this coin. I cannot say anything negative about it. It's a needle-sharp detailed coin on the obverse and reverse with dramatic contrasting details when viewed as a whole due to the special minting process used to manufacture the coin and dies. With a fabulous sharp strike outlining the various details of the coin that I had never appreciated in the same way before, sparkling lustrous surfaces, and outstanding eye appeal, as well as no spots, hairlines, hits, scuff marks, abrasions or other defects whatsoever, it is an American Silver Eagle truly in MS-70 condition.
Numismatic News: Using new technology, the new "Enhanced" Finish American Silver Eagle debuted in a special two coin set (packaged along with a 2013-W Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle) and not sold separately.
This new coin features three distinctly visual finishes. Each coin is made from specially burnished planchets and fed into the coining press by hand. Each planchet is struck three times using specially prepared dies -- and then having their heavy and light frosting applied by laser. The dies are auto-polished with a horsehair brush (to achieve the brilliant finish). In addition, the dies are coated with chrome to increase their life cycle.
