In the first eight years of Her Majesty's reign these £ Pounds and £½ Pounds were struck in Proof condition - the only place in the entire world that was striking proof gold with Her Majesty's portrait on it. This makes these coins the only relatively obtainable way to own Proof gold with the Coronation (Laureate Bust) portrait and, consequently, they are of great significance to collectors.
