Six commemorative dollars were released in 1996, and the first four were issued to commemorate the 1996 Olympic Summer Games in Atlanta, Georgia. The first of these Olympic dollars honored the sport of Tennis (or, we could say, Women's Tennis). The obverse of the coin features a female tennis player about to hit the ball. The reverse features an image of a stylized Olympic torch with the inscription "Atlanta 1996 Centennial Olympic Games."
There was a small production of 15,983 uncirculated coins produced by the Denver Mint, and 92,016 proof coins produced by the Philadelphia Mint. Because of the small mintages, the uncirculated dollars are difficult to find in MS70 condition. The Philadelphia Mint proof dollars are extremely to find in perfect PF70 condition. A PF70 graded coin is a key coin in the collection of Modern Commemorative dollars.
