*** The stolen and recovered privy maple ***
This exemplary 2005 Canada G$10 Liberation Privy Maple was purchased in late 2018 from Colonial Acres Coins of Kitchener. With sharp reflective fields, and a flawless surface, I decided to send it to NGC in Sarasota with 9 or so other coins to be graded. The 2005 gold privy maple did exceptionally well, grading SP70 ... the only one to ever make that grade at the time. I was thrilled when the coins were returned to me on February 13th of 2019 ... or so I thought. Unfortunately, the coins were intercepted and stolen at the Miami ISC Sorting Facility by a USPS employee on February 18th of 2019. For all intents and purposes, I assumed the coins were lost forever ... and the others may still be. I contacted NGC, Miami-Dade Police, the United States Postal Inspection Service, Niagara Regional Police Services, the Canadian Border Services Agency, and a lawyer acting on my behalf. Very few answers were available at the time. Much to my amazement, on Monday, July 01, 2019 the SP70 Gold Liberation Privy coin was listed on eBay by a Miami Pawn Shop! I was stunned and bought the coin immediately. I contacted NGC, and they informed me that they had assisted in the investigation by opening a case with the USPIS. A special agent was assigned to the case, and the agent has worked very diligently to identify the thief and bring him to justice. Now, even though this coin has probably cost me $1800 in total ... it carries with it a very special story and I am very happy that it has found it's way back to me. The thief and I share one thing in common, we both have an excellent eye for high-grade, quality coins.
