NGC US Coin Census for Washington Quarters (1932-1998)

Owner Comments:

The Washington quarter is second only to the Lincoln cent in years of production. In 1965, the silver composition was replaced with a nickel clad composition; and in 1974, a lower relief design with more details was used. The design saw several other minor changes since 1977. No mint mark was used in 1965-1967, and coins struck in West Point from 1977-1979 also did not have a mint mark making them indistinguishable from coins struck in Philadelphia. Starting in 1980, all coins except the cent were supposed to have a mint mark.
This type ranks 4th most common of the 37 20th Century types with over 6.6% of all coins produced.

This near flawless example is from the last year with the Heraldic Eagle reverse.
