Historical Information:
- Delivered longest inaugural address in American history at 8,445 words. He was speaking for nearly 2 hours. He did this to prove he wasn’t uneducated and foolish.
- About 3 weeks after taking office he fell ill and died 2 weeks later. This wasn’t a result of him giving a long speech at his inauguration as has often been believed and repeated.
- First president to die in office.
