Owner Comments:
Two commemorative $5 coins were issued in 1992. The second coin issued was for the Christopher Columbus Quincentenary (500th Anniversary of Columbus's exploration of the New World). The obverse of the coin features a side-profile view of Columbus with a globe of the world in the background. The reverse of the coin features the crest of the Admiral of the Oceans and a map dated 1492. There were 24,329 uncirculated and 79,730 proof coins minted by the West Point Mint. These dollars are moderately difficult to find in perfect MS70 condition (fewer than 900 graded in MS70) and are somewhat easier to find in perfect PF70 condition (more than 1,400 graded in PF70).
