Owner Comments:

Very attractive Mexican 2 escudos. And like many of the issues of the Republican gold, rare. This one is called by Mr Richard Long in his book, as extremely rare. After a search on ACSEARCH I found the following sales for an 1862 MoCH 2 escudos:

1. STACK'S, THE VERMEULE, WARD, AND MEXICO MAXICO COLLECTIONS, LOT 1314 11/1/2010: MEXICO. Republic. 2 Escudos, 1862 Mo CH. Mexico City. Hand inscribing law book with quill and Liberty Cap. Rv. Bold eagle facing with snake in beak. KM 380.7, Fr.87. Satiny gold color from being cleaned with an abrasive, but sharply struck on the obverse and reverse. A formidable rarity in all grades, seldom offered or seen, this is likely one of the best to survive of the issue, as noted in Richard A Long’s Gold Coins of the Early Mexican Republic 1823-1873. Strong Extremely Fine.
2. STEPHEN ALBUM AUCTION 29 LOT 1129 14/9/2017 (THIS COIN, UNSOLD) MEXICO: AV 2 escudos, 1862-Mo, KM-380.7, assayer CH, nice full strike, with the date fully struck as opposed to other specimens, NGC graded AU58, RR Richard Long notes that this is an extremely rare coin. This piece is the finest graded by NGC (July 2017).
3. HERITAGE 10/4/2015 FOX LAIR AU55 LOT 25427

At the time of purchase (May 2018) there are 4 coins graded: 2@55, this one at 58, and 1@63.

From the sale’s catalogue:"MEXICO. 2 Escudos, 1862-MoCH. NGC AU-58. Fr-87; KM-380.7. Well struck with brilliant luster. No distracting marks or defects and quite attractive".
