Owner Comments:
In 2018, the single $5 gold coin that was issued promoted Breast Cancer Awareness and helped raise funds to further breast cancer research. The obverse of the coin features two cancer survivors (one younger, with a raised fist, as if ready to fight) and one that is more mature with hands crossed on her breast, as if relieved. The reverse features a Tiger Swallowtail butterfly (a symbol of hope) and the inscription "Breast Cancer Awareness." The design used on the gold $5 coin was also used on the clad half dollar and the silver dollar coin. I believe this is the second time in the Modern Commemorative era where a single design was used across all coin types. (First was the 2014 National Baseball Hall of Fame coins.)
The coin was designed to appear rose (pink) colored by changing the admixture of metals, utilizing more copper.
