Lyman Allen #9.02 (KM #181) - Mintage: 3,750,000

General
1938 was the second year that 10 Centavo coins were produced by the Manila Mint bearing the Commonwealth reverse. This is the first year that the "M" mint mark appears as an inverted "W." This coin, like all of the silver coinage produced by the Philippine Mint in Manila, was struck from silver reclaimed from the second generation Pesos (1907-1912).

This Coin
This coin exhibits a nice luster and relatively sharp strike for a Manila mint issue. The detail in the hair on the obverse is magnificent. The reverse detail is far above average as well. The center and right stars at the top of the shield nearly come to a point, the sea lion is prominent and shows some body detail, and the banner is very nearly complete. This particular coin also also exhibits a significant obverse die clash. It is very easy to see the image of the inverted reverse shield between the female figure and the volcano. The image of the shield is also visible to the left of the figure, although it is a little less prominent.

Varieties
None reported for this date.

Date acquired: 4/2/2018 (already graded by NGC)
