During 1995, two commemorate half dollars were issued in advance of the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia. The first coin was the Centennial Olympics half dollar honoring Men's Basketball and it was the 11th half dollar minted in the "Modern Commemorative" era. The obverse of the 1995-S half dollar features a trio of men reaching for a tipped basketball. The reverse of the coin features a world map and the symbol for the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games. There were 169,655 proof coins minted. These half dollars are made from 92% copper and 8% nickel.
