Owner Comments:

"Foundation in Education" and "Grant Wood" are inscribed on the reverse side of the coin, designed by John Mercanti. Grant Wood was an American painter, better known for his famous painting "American Gothic." The coin shows a teacher and students planting a tree outside of a one-room schoolhouse.

Iowa was admitted as the 29th U.S. state in 1846. There was a mintage of 1,769,786 proof coins (highest mintage in the 50 State Quarter series).
