Owner Comments:

The 1987 dollar commemorates the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Constitution. There were 451,629 coins produced by the Philadelphia Mint and 2,747,116 proof coins minted by the San Francisco Mint. This Patricia Lewis Verani designed coin features a quill pen and a sheaf of blank parchment paper on the obverse with the inscription from the Constitution "We the People." The reverse shows a grouping of 13 different figures (a statesman, a frontiersman, a cowboy, et al) meant to convey the country's social and cultural diversity.
