Owner Comments:

NGC Cameo Populations:
The total mintage figure for 1957 is 1,247,952. As of 12/2018, NGC certified coin populations show that there are 1677 Cameo coins total in all grades making up 0.13% of the total mintage while there are 136 Ultra Cameo coins making up 0.01%.

Cameo Availability:
This is the last year of the coins from the middle years. In my experience, high quality attractive 1957 coins are available almost the same as the 1956 Type2. However, Ultra Cameos are a much tougher find for 1957 than for 1956 Type2. This may be because the master die was beginning to lose detail. When that happens, the pickling acid that is used to clean and restore the frosted surfaces on the working proof dies must be applied for a shorter time so as to not impact the loss of detail any further resulting in a weaker cameo effect transferred to each coin. This weaker cameo produces fewer Ultra Cameo coins from each die pair. So, the Ultra Cameo population is substantially lower than 1956 Type2 even though the overall mintage is far higher.

This Coin:
This coin is pure white with no toning, has clean deep fields and strong cameo (obv: ucam, rev: cameo+). Like the 1956 Type2, I was able to find this attractive coin relatively quickly.
