Owner Comments:
Three commemorative dollars were issued in 1992. The second dollar was issued for the Christopher Columbus Quincentenary (500th Anniversary) of Christopher Columbus's exploration of the New World. The obverse of the coin features a full-length portrait of Columbus next to a globe of the world. The reverse of the coin features a split image showing his main ship, the Santa Maria to the left, and the space shuttle "Discovery" to the right. There were 106,949 uncirculated coins produced by the Denver Mint and 385,241 proof coins produced by the Philadelphia Mint. These dollars are fairly easy to locate in perfect MS70 condition, and are difficult to find in perfect PF70 condition. A PF70 graded coin is a key coin in any collection of Modern Commemorative dollars.
