Owner Comments:

No commemorative half dollars were minted during 2009 and 2010. In 2011, a commemorative half dollar was issued to honor the United States Army. It was the 18th half dollar minted in the "Modern Commemorative" era. The obverse of the 2011-S half dollar features three different military scenes: the first is an image of a soldier surveying, the second shows two soldiers building a flood wall (Army Corps of Engineers), and the third shows an Army rocket used for space exploration. The intent is to show the peaceful service of the U.S. Army.

The reverse features a bust of a Continental soldier holding a musket and the inscription "First in Service to the Nation."

There were 68,332 proof coins produced. These half dollars are made from 92% copper and 8% nickel. The 2011-S half is fairly common in perfect PF70 graded condition.
